Former HELLOWEEN Singer Says 'Metal Scene Is Often Very Dumb And Dead'

Former HELLOWEEN vocalist Michael Kiske recently spoke to Electricbasement.com about the less-than-stellar reactions to his latest project, SUPARED, "As always when you are not the kind of person who cares about market expectations or critics, it's a love/hate situation. The metal scene is very often very dumb and dead. So a lot of them complain. But if people outside of metal listen to it, they mostly love it. I have to find new friends and grounds I am afraid."

When asked if he would ever consider playing power metal again, Kiske said, "Nope! Actually I will go even more in the direction of soft sounds. That's much more me today. More acoustic and classical stuff. The SUPARED album is already too hard for my own taste. You won't hear anything like that from me in the future. I don't care about styles or drawers."

With regards to his feelings on the music industry, Kiske said, "Music today is just a product, not art anymore. After the success of something you did, you easily become a slave of your past. You are supposed to reproduce what ever sold best in your career, but that's business and has nothing to do with honest and real music. It's poisoning culture. Already in HELLOWEEN I started to feel those anti-art and anti-freedom forces especially in metal. Pseudo-Critics who think it's the musicians' job to please them, ruin honest music. They always think they know better than the musician how to make good records. I guess they only don't do records themselves, because they haven't got the time for it, you know.
